Campaign To End Childhood Hunger (CTECH)

The Campaign To End Childhood Hunger (CTECH) program improves food security for Kansas low-income children through advocacy, education and outreach.  CTECH has developed a network of organizations, congregations, and community activists to fight childhood hunger.  CTECH is an effective voice for the hungry and malnourished living in Kansas.  The Kansas Benefit Bank (a new program to CTECH) is working to provide assistance to low-income individuals and families by offering multiple benefit applications for food stamps, Medicaid, HealthWave, low income energy assistance, child care subsidies, as well as refunds and credits from federal and state tax filing.  This year, The Kansas Benefit Bank has brought over $500,000 worth of economic development income into Kansas communities.

What Does Campaign To End Childhood Hunger Do?

The Campaign To End Childhood Hunger works to ensure no child goes hungry by supporting and strengthening federal nutrition programs and advocating for policies that help working families. In 2005, Campaign To End Childhood Hunger:

Worked with area congregations and Wichita Public Schools to help children in five low-income neighborhoods receive 11,247 nutritious meals.

Worked with Kansas Department of Education and Kansas denominations to help churches in low-income rural areas provide meals to children.

Advocated with and on behalf of 20,365 Wichita children living in poverty and faith communities to prevent cuts to food stamps.

Trained 115 anti-hunger advocates, recruited 20 congregations, and solicited 640 contacts with elected officials to protect children who would go hungry without food stamps.

Raised awareness of hunger in Wichita through 13 media contacts.

Organized the CROP Walk, which generated $19,500 and over 120 pounds of peanut butter for local food pantries and international hunger relief.

Organized the Souper Bowl, which generated over 1300 pounds of food for homeless services.
